Singled Out: Collegians – Killer

After this many powerful singles, it is clear as day that Collegians are not messing around. Time and time again, this incredible band from Melbourne, Australia, shows up to the party with the best track of the night. We found ourselves impressed by Vaccine, then sucked in by the gravity of Black Mass, and now Killer just elevates it all to another monstrous level! It is easy to forget that this is still considered an indie band, because nothing about Collegians sounds indie.

I would go so far as saying that Collegians have raised the bar and set the gold-standard for what other Indie bands need to do before releasing their single to the world. Professionally recorded, structured methodically, and mixed to perfection; yes, I hit repeat every time I listen to this song.

In the vein of Muse meets Imagine Dragons meets Depeche Mode, Killer offers an exciting nod to the bands influences, and respectfully makes sure to stay original to the bands own creative vision. It is a dark-journey of a song, travelling from a gritty opening to an apex of melody further down the road. Glenn Patrick’s vocals are commanding all over this track, and there is a definite confidence growing in his vocal delivery.

The three brothers (Gerry on guitar/vocals, James on keyboard/bass, and Vince on drums) show the sort of powerful chemistry found in family bonds. These three consistently weave together exciting musical soundscapes for Glenn to sing on, and the result are songs that emotionally dig deep, and fans all over are taking a real notice of just what makes this band so special.

It is clear, that I do not have enough positive words for Collegians; in truth, I have been a true fan of theirs since they first hit the scene. What can I say? I am really enjoying watching them grow as a band and ever- reaching for even higher levels of song-writing. You just know that they have what it takes to break through to a large audience, and when they do, it means more than a single at a time; finally, fans of Collegians everywhere will get the full album they know is coming!

Killer is in a word; Killer!
