Garbage & Skunk Anansie
Cardiff Castle
23 June 2026
Two Icons. Two fierce leaders. Two satisfying sets.
The classic Welsh weather shows face as the doors open to this anticipated co-headlining show.
Skunk Anansie are undeniably loud, a force to be reckoned with. Skin does not hold back on the political talk. A few punters give the middle finger to Skin as she calls out Reform and Starmer, whilst others who’ve been paying attention since their early career cheer and applaud her.
Skunk Anansie aren’t just a nostalgia band, they still feel fresh and relevant, they bring a vibe to the Castle that gets everyone grooving. It’s joyful to witness.
Skin wanders deep into the crowd and gets a good ol’ mosh pit going – it feels personal and intimate despite the large venue. A set worthy of a headline slot.
The bar is high and Garbage have a lot to follow, so apparent that even Shirley Manson quickly addresses the force that is Skin. Whilst Skunk Anansie brought the intensity, Garbage tone it to a more delicate, more relaxed evening (especially needed for a Monday night).
Shirley’s voice and stage persona carry the band through the set. Vocals still strong and commendable as ever. A shout out to a childhood friend, 90s hits, even the newer songs sounding deep over the Castle speakers. It’s been a true fans show tonight.
Both Skin and Shirley Manson are now more than ever important to the music scene. They both truly care for their art, for what’s right, and we truly hope the younger generation quickly discover them and get inspired.
The only downside to a Monday gig? Transport. Many run out during the last few songs to catch last trains which leaves it feeling a little dampened in spirit.
