King Satan – Black Magick Abraxas Review

Release date: 6th November 2026

King Satan is a band that has always marched to the beat of their own drum, following their own path and refusing to conform nor compromise. Their latest album, Black Magick Abraxas, is a prime example of this. Set to release at one of the highest points in the bands career due to far they have grown as the years have passed, it has also been quoted as potentially being their final full-length release…! But when has this band ever taken the normal route?

If this is the final album, it certainly slots into that ‘role’ well because the band seems to have come full circle with this piece. It has its own sound, but compared with the band’s previous releases it definitely sounds ‘closest’ to their debut King Fucking Satan and it’s almost like the band have come back to the beginning to close the circle by creating a ‘spiritual successor’ to it. However saying that, it simultaneously still sounds fresh and unique with its own identity and is an album that will appeal to both old and new fans alike – it has that old school vibe with several songs sounding like they wouldn’t be out of place on the aforementioned King Fucking Satan, but has the more modern ‘organic’ live sound of their later releases so it brings together the best of both worlds.

Songs like The Devil Made Me Do It and Hate Me Baby seem to hark to the past by channelling the raw and untapped chaotic energy that they were creating in earlier releases, whilst Down By The Sins for example sounds more akin to something you might find on Occult Spiritual Anarchy or The Devil’s Evangelion. It’s clever songwriting, bringing the old and the new together to create a whole different beast, and that’s what makes the album so engaging. It’s old and new at the same time, somehow serving as a ‘best of’ release with fresh material!

My personal favourite, however, is the song that cannot be pigeonholed into one specific box – Abraxas Rising. I first heard the song whilst driving and my immediate thought upon hearing it was “this sounds like if King Satan and Fear Of Domination had a baby”, so I certainly felt justified in my initial reaction when I glanced at the track title and noticed it actually featured Saku Solin, one of the singers from FOD! The way the two singers bounce off one another is fantastic, really elevating the track, and it certainly feels like a song made for a live environment due to the energy and its rather massive-sounding chorus. The idea of shouting the title out loud in a crowd of people feels extremely correct, so hopefully this is the year where we can FINALLY retire Pagan Satan and moving forwards have this song as the crowd participation song instead.

In this day and age of AI, fakeness and bullshittery, it is incredibly rewarding to hear an album that just sounds so utterly authentic. From the painted cover of the album (created by the very talented M.T. Salminen), to the carefully curated songwriting and the powerfully delivered music itself – not to mention the raw energy that just emanates from the music – this is perfection. King Satan have truly elevated themselves with Black Magick Abraxas, creating an album that will remain with you for a long time after the closing chords of the final song ring out.
