Turmion Kätilöt – Universal Satan Review

Release date: 14th September 2018

I’ve been dancing about my house and at work to this album since it was released about two weeks ago. Universal Satan is incredibly catchy and is jam-packed with tracks that will get stuck in your head. Turmion Kätilöt is one of those bands that delivers both on CD and in a live environment and Universal Satan is another strong piece of work from the Finnish band.

Universal Satan is the first release with new(ish) singer Shag-U (Fear Of Domination) and it’s refreshing to hear the new spin he adds to the band. Stylistically his voice fits perfectly with the music and with MC Rakka Pee’s, and it feels like he’s always been a part of the band. Songs such as Faster Than God show the versatility of the two singers, juxtaposing the two against one another atop of a seriously catchy keyboard line and a nice thick wall of noise courtesy of the guitar, bass and drums.

Highlights of Universal Satan includes the aforementioned Faster Than God as well as the album’s other single Sikiö, and Love Is Dead is another strong (and very catchy) inclusion – I have to admit, as a non-Finnish speaker it’s rather nice to have two songs in English on this one so I can at least understand the lyrics of two tracks without looking them up on Google Translate! 😉 Additionally, second track Itseensäsekaantuja packs a real punch and the more electronic vibe to it is fantastic.

Although it’s perhaps advised to see Turmion Kätilöt live to get the full experience, you can’t go wrong with Universal Satan. Certainly one of their stronger releases to date.
