Singled Out: King Satan – Black Magick Rock ‘N’ Roll (feat. Erja Lyytinen)

It’s always a good day when King Satan releases new music, and they are back with their recently released single Black Magick Rock ‘N’ Roll, which features Erja Lyytinen, aka Finland’s Queen of the slide guitar. One would say this is an unlikely matchup – but when has King Satan ever followed the rules?

As someone who has followed the band since the early days, I have perhaps more of a personal connection with their older material, so it felt pretty cool to hear a more ‘old school KS vibe’ with this song, with it feeling more electro/aggrotech driven for the most part and would certainly not feel out of place on King Fucking Satan.

Another thing I really enjoyed was how seamlessly Lyytinen’s guitar work fit into the song as well. You can tell it is not necessarily in the same ‘style’ as you might expect for King Satan, but it’s by no means a bad thing and her bluesy guitarwork pairs nicely with the more aggressive instrumentation from the rest of the band.

With King Satan, I’ve learnt by now to expect the unexpected, and with Black Magick Rock ‘N’ Roll they have absolutely nailed it once again. Is this a hint as to what we can anticipate from their next album? Well, I have no idea – but I’ll be there for the ride in any case.
