Soundscape’s Advent 2025 Day 06: Paradise Lost – Ascension

This year, I thought I would do something a little different compared to a standard ‘end-of-year list’. There have been plenty of awesome albums, EPs and songs released this year – so for the 24 days of advent, I will be sharing some of my favourite cuts of 2025 along with a short review of each.

Paradise Lost – Ascension

I genuinely don’t feel that Paradise Lost can do much wrong. It’s rare that I enjoy the entirety of a band’s back catalogue, especially considering Paradise Lost have so many albums in several different styles, but I can honestly say I will happily listen to any of their songs.

Ascension feels powerful and emotive, and the songs sound great both recorded and live. For me personally, it feels like one of their stronger albums, with highlights including the passionate Salvation and my personal highlight The Precipice. I particularly like how it blends an old-school early PL vibe with a more modern one!

One of my all-time favourite albums of 2025. (But I will say it’s a shame Guido left because I absolutely adored his drumming on here!)
