I first came across Wolves Den as a last-minute replacement for a no-show at Dark Easter Metal Meeting 2018, I was captivated by their intensely engaging performance and have been a fan of them ever since. Miserere is the band’s second album and it’s a top-notch piece of work that really showcases their strengths.
The music is hard-hitting and in-your-face for the most part, with Wolves Den powering through the eight tracks with an unrivalled intensity. Everything comes together spectacularly, with a perfect flow from track to track. From opener Tides Of Hate, which slowly amps things up until you are faced with a massive-sounding song, to slow-burner Antaios which briefly slows things down to inject some melody into the piece before once-again bringing the noise in the latter half, and closer Nameless Grave winds things up on an epic high.
The only ‘bad’ thing about Miserere is that it’s making me really antsy to see Wolves Den live again – because it’s bringing back all those memories of just how awesome they were at that show of theirs I was lucky enough to witness. So I guess once we’re allowed to travel again, I’ll be booking myself onto the next flight to Germany once they announce some more gigs!
All in all, a fantastic album. Miserere is a top-notch listen and an album I’ll keep wanting to return to for another listen.
