Superior Saints – Superior Saints EP Review

Release date: 23rd March 2018

The self-titled debut EP from Superior Saints is a rather promising bit of work. With more of an old-school rock vibe to the music, there’s a very classic sound to the EP but at the same time it is fresh and exciting – so it’s the perfect mix!

At only three tracks in duration, it does sound a little more of an appetiser than a fully-fledged release, especially since one of the included tracks is a cover. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, of course, because if anything it makes the listener hungry for more. Each of the included tracks brings something different to the table whilst simultaneously flowing together as one singular unit.

Immigrant Song, a cover of the Led Zeppelin classic, gives a new spin on the fantastic song, with an especially strong vocal performance from frontman Johan – there is an impressive amount of power to his voice and it works fantastically with the track. Meanwhile, second track The Window has a slightly fuzzy and heavier tone to it, with a funky guitar line set to get stuck in your head, and closing track Supermaniac (my personal favourite) has a great amount of energy to it that helps to finish the EP on a powerfully high note.

All in all, this is an EP with a lot of potential – Superior Saints is a band certainly worth keeping an eye on, and I for one am very keen to see what they can achieve with a full-length release.
