Shields’ Playlist

Shields released their debut album Life In Exile about two months ago – you can pick up your copy here. We caught up with them to get a closer insight into the music that makes them tick.

A song that influenced Shields
Structures – Life Through A Window (album)

We all have a fairly wide range of influences but the main musical influence on us is the band Structures, any song from their album Life Through A Window, the way they build their layers and harmonies of their riffs really shaped our own writing.  There is just so much hectic energy in their songs and the delivery is so heavy!

A song they wish they could have written
Every Time I Die – We’rewolf

I wish I could have written We’rewolf by Every Time I Die, it’s got this heavy rock n roll swagger to it throughout and I absolutely love the tongue in cheek lyrics.  It always puts me in a good mood and it finishes with this big heavy ending, which we’re obviously a fan of haha!

Their favourite Shields song
Black Dog

My favourite Shields song is Black Dog, it was one of those songs where we really felt like we’d found the sound we wanted for our album.  Before release we’d been playing it live for a few months and it always seemed to go down pretty well. It’s just such a fun song to play it really made waiting to release our album all the harder because we just couldn’t wait to see what people thought of it.

A song they’ve been listening to a lot recently
END – Chewing Glass

I’ve been listening to Chewing Glass by the band END almost every day for the last few weeks.  That band really took me by surprise – the aggression is just insane, excellent travel music!

Their all time favourite song
Deftones – Minerva

My all time favourite song is Minerva by Deftones.  I love it so much I even have it tattooed on my arm, it never ever ceases to blow me away it’s just such an epic song.  It’s a perfect of heavy and melodic, I haven’t heard anything else quite like it.
