Picks Of The Month: February 2018

March is here, and with it has brought a fair bit of snow to the UK (well, a fair bit to us – we know all our Nordic friends have a lot more)! If you’re lucky enough to have a snow day, why not check out some of our favourite releases from the month of February?

Natalie’s Picks

Verikalpa – Taistelutahto
Track to check out: Viinapiru

Talk about IMPRESSIVE! If you like folk metal, then you seriously need to check this shit out because it will blow you away. It clocks in at just over half an hour, but it packs a serious punch over its relatively short duration. I can’t stop listening to it, and I’m already counting down the days to when I fly out to Finland for Nummirock where I will be seeing them live!

Bornless Fire – Arcanum
Track to check out: Eclipse Of The Soul
Our review: https://www.soundscapemagazine.com/bornless-fire-arcanum-review/
Purchase link: https://bornlessfire.bandcamp.com/album/arcanum

I have a big appreciation for industrial metal done well, and a project ticking all the right boxes in that respect is Bornless Fire. Arcanum is an immersive bit of work that definitely deserves to be blasted at top volume!

Grimner – Vanadrottning
Track to check out: Avundas Hennes Ungdom
Our review: https://www.soundscapemagazine.com/grimner-interview-review/
Purchase link: http://despotz.bigcartel.com/product/grimner-vanadrottning-cd

Grimner is a band that can’t seem to do much wrong! Their latest album Vanadrottning is yet another fantastic release and packs a real punch. We can’t wait for their show at Hammerfest in a couple of weeks.

Dave’s Picks

Junksista – Promiscuous Tendencies
Track to check out: Monster
Our review: https://www.soundscapemagazine.com/junksista-promiscuous-tendencies-review/
Purchase link: https://alfamatrix.bandcamp.com/album/promiscuous-tendencies-bonus-tracks-edition

Valentines Day cocked its crusty little bow this month and what better way to celebrate it than with a voluptuous album that continually falls out over its own pulling power.

Necrosexual – Grim 1
Track to check out: Black Metal White Winter
Our review: https://www.soundscapemagazine.com/necrosexual-grim-1-review/
Purchase link: https://necrosexual.bandcamp.com/album/grim-1

This album epitomizes the frivolity of black metal and is the second best black metal band ever (the first being Especially Likely Sloth.)

Psy’Aviah – Lightflare
Track to check out: Lost at Sea – Rool Remix
Our review: https://www.soundscapemagazine.com/psyaviah-lightflare-review/
Purchase link: https://alfamatrix.bandcamp.com/album/lightflare-bonus-tracks-version

Love is a tumultuous journey and wow, this album is accurate on many different levels.
