Mother Of Graves – The Light That Keeps Us Review

Release date: 16th October 2026

As someone eternally on the hunt for good death/doom bands that truly hit the right spot, my search recently led me to Mother Of Graves who are currently gearing up to release their brand new offering, The Light That Keeps Us. One of the things that I personally find very important when it comes to this style and genre of music is the emotion that is evoked whilst listening to it, and Mother Of Graves have crafted this beautifully with an emotive and powerful collection of songs.

Mother Of Graves have the balance just right when it comes to crushing heaviness and beautiful melodies on The Light That Keeps Us. The album is aggressive and heavy, with the intertwining melodic elements adding additional levels and variety in order to keep things both engaging and stimulating. It’s one of those albums that you can keep listening to and noticing something different on each listen because there’s a lot of intricacy to the music.

From the stripped-back piano intro of opener Wingless Soul, Mother Of Graves take their time to captivate you as they set the scene before the rest of the band joins in with an emotively heavy wall of guitars, practically forcing you to pay attention as the album gets moving, and it progresses strongly from there. Third track The Light That Keeps Us feels almost haunting from the empassioned vocal delivery in parts, and closing track The Endless Climb is a particular highlight to me – it sounds a little My Dying Bride-y thanks to the string section and I am all here for that.

The Light That Keeps Us is an absolute gem. Beautifully emotive from start to finish, this is an album that will just keep on giving.
