Electric Callboy – Tekkno Review

Release date: 9th September 2022

It’s always great to get new music from Electric Callboy, and Tekkno is a really fun release that is certain to get stuck in your head. A musically solid piece, it definitely gets me even more excited to catch them live again in the UK in a couple of weeks.

Opening with Pump It, Tekkno wastes no time in getting things moving. Making you feel suitably pumped, it’s a massive sing-along track that you can’t help but want to blast it out at a high volume – the perfect way to kick the album off. Things continue well from there, and third track Fuckboi is my personal highlight of the entire album. It’s too damn catchy for its own good with a massive chorus, and I keep finding myself returning to this track for another listen. The song itself is fairly simplistic, but sometimes this approach is the most effective, and it’s definitely paid off for this song.

Tekkno keeps the hits coming – it’s rare an album is all killer without even a little bit of filler, but that’s exactly what Electric Callboy have done with this. Another of the strongest tracks is Neon, which is the album’s closer. There’s a lot of emotion and colour in the song, and gives Tekkno another layer of variety. It helps to keep you engaged from start to finish, because it means you never quite know what to expect with each twist and turn.

All in all, a fantastic album from Electric Callboy and perhaps one of their best yet. They have really taken things to the next level, and if the previous live show of theirs I attended is anything to go by, we are all in for a treat when we see these songs live.
