Dicepeople – Destroyer Review

Release date: 17th January 2020

It’s always a pleasure to hear new music from the excellent Dicepeople, and whilst I didn’t connect with their last release One From Many as well as I did with previous releases, I was still excited to hear what would be cooked up next.

Destroyer is a four-track EP that shows Dicepeople continuing to progress forward with a slightly darker and grittier sound compared to some of their previous releases, and it’s one of those immersive releases that really sucks you in and makes you hungry for more.

Opening with Rollercoaster, which is perhaps the most straightforward track of the EP as it’s fairly simple in its composition, the track sets the scene well. It features one of those choruses that will certainly get stuck in your head before long, and it’s a good, solid beginning to the EP.

As it progresses, Destroyer gains traction and becomes a little darker and unnerving with each song. Third track Don’t Save Me in particular is more of a slow burner, sounding a little more sporadic in its construction. The slightly unnerving darker undertones to it giving it an extra bit of bite before the EP closes with the title track. Destroyer almost makes you feel a little uneasy with how it sounds and the way everything is blended together, which is perfect for a track named as such. Indeed, the track is masterfully constructed and the way it ends so abruptly really leaves you hungering for more.

Destroyer is a great little EP from this talented little outfit, and it’s great to see Dicepeople continuing to progress their sound and push more boundaries with their music. Make sure you don’t miss this one.
