The third album from Dark Sarah, The Golden Moth, is the final part of the Dark Sarah trilogy, following on from part one (Behind The Black Veil, which follows Dark Sarah’s travel through the Middle World) and part two (The Puzzle, which follows Dark Sarah’s travel through the Underworld). The Golden Moth takes place in the Upper World, and features JP Leppäluoto (Charon) performing vocals in the role of The Dragon, who joins Dark Sarah on her travels in the Upper World.
JP adds another dimension to the album, with his vocals complementing Heidi’s magnificently, and the storytelling as the piece progresses from one song to the next is fantastic – it’s almost like you’re on the journey alongside the pair! There’s a lot of colour and variety to the songs, so the album remains engaging from start to finish. At times, the theatrics do feel a little over the top, but that’s only a minor complaint in the grand scheme of things.
Although all the songs bring something different to the table, my personal highlight is sixth track Pirates. Although the spoken section feels a little uncomfortable to listen to, the rest of the track is utterly magical and the chorus has a special spark; it’s got one of those lines that will get stuck in your head and will remain there long after the track comes to an end.
As a whole, The Golden Moth is a satisfying end to the trilogy – if you’ve already heard the first two, then be sure not to miss this one!
