This year, I thought I would do something a little different compared to a standard ‘end-of-year list’. There have been plenty of awesome albums, EPs and songs released this year – so for the 24 days of advent, I will be sharing some of my favourite cuts of 2025 along with a short review of each.
Rootbrain – Mothertomb
Considering Breakwater was one of my highlights of 2023, I have been eagerly anticipating new material from Rootbrain ever since, and Mothertomb hits the spot very nicely.
One of the things I love most about Rootbrain is the emotion in the songs. It makes the music feel very special and like you’re witnessing something great. Each of the four songs bring something different to the table, with my favourite of the four being the title track – I adore the way it starts out acoustically and builds up to a fuller, loud crescendo as the song progresses.
All in all, Mothertomb is a very nice little EP, serving as a nice taster for what to expect with their next full-length. I swear I said this last year, and the year before that – but damn it, I really need to see this band live!
