This year, I thought I would do something a little different compared to a standard ‘end-of-year list’. There have been plenty of awesome albums, EPs and songs released this year – so for the 24 days of advent, I will be sharing some of my favourite cuts of 2025 along with a short review of each.
Septicflesh – Amphibians
From out of NOWHERE at the start of this year, Septicflesh dropped their almightly Amphibians EP and it’s another masterful offering from the band.
Honestly I don’t feel that Septicflesh can do any wrong. Their music is absolutely stunning and Amphibians is no exception to this. Despite the fact it only really features two new songs (alongside two orchestral tracks), Amphibians is a really satisfying release.
History Repeats Itself (Orchestral Version) harks back to their previous album Modern Primitive with orchestral motifs from their Neuromancer track and honestly I actually love this more than the two completely new songs – the way the song revisits one of my favourites from their previous album is truly masterful. Additionally the two actually-new songs Amphibians and The Experiment are oh-so-satisfying to listen to, capturing everything about Septicflesh that makes the band so special.
Amphibians serves as a wonderful pre-cursor to the next release from Septicflesh – now here’s hoping we get a surprise new album in 2026!
