Maailmanloppu – Tuhon Koodi Review

Released on: 13th April 2018

The word hardcore gets thrown around a lot to divide bands from where punk has gone. In fact hardcore has become the ephemeral buzzword for acts who like to flex their politics in a brain dead scene that thinks Green Day are so cool and counter-culture. I like to call it Tardcore. Slow burning music that’ll be ready for five o’clock tea.

Not this though. Maailmanloppu are a hardcore punk act that sound like a hardcore punk act and their second album is an honest mix of obnoxious riffs and abrasive vocals that inspires angst and rebellion. I have to say that this might not be the intention but because I’m not Finnish (the language and land of Maailmanloppu) I can’t tell. Music is a language in and of itself, and transcends the notion of calling a spade a spade.

Entitled Tuhon Koodi this album is a daring ride told with old school punk bravado. Its raw and succinct approach to songwriting is both refreshing and energizing. Understanding that time is precious Maailmanloppu don’t waste even a scintilla of temporal energy getting to what makes them motivated and carry it throughout the albums run time without fault.

Tuhon Koodi is a tight album that carries the spirit of Finnish hardcore.

7/10
