Square Festival 2009

Posted on July 28, 2009 by nadineb

Square Festival was a lovely idea at the time, set in Borth, West Wales, next to a lovely beach and surrounded by beautiful scenery. The website stated all these terribly interesting events going on… It just sounded like the perfect little festival weekend away.

It’s just a shame who ever organised it really has no idea how a festival should be run. We at Soundscape did not find it amusing that no one knew what was going on, that the ‘backstage/shortcut’ area was a building site, well most of the festival grounds it self had more health and safety risks than you’ve had cooked dinners this year. In fact, as we arrived on the friday afternoon they were still building the stages.

Having to guess which bands played when and who ever they were and 3 hours late at that matter too, having to carefully career ourselves back to the camp site in the dark, which I’m sure families had a ball doing this. Then finally feeling absolutely sorry for bands on a sunday afternoon on the ‘mainstage’ playing no more than to 100 people, is this really a festival?

Where were all these extras as well?
We for one did not see any ‘Gnome currency’ which to be fair was accompanied by a JCB built island that clearly wasn’t finished and had simply a giant gnome placed in the middle of it.
We did not see a hammock island, the solar cinema even open?
Half pipe more like ¼ pipe and the the Skinny Dipping World Record Attempt obviously got lost amongst the 2 people that actually had a clue what was going on.

It’s just such a shame as some bands on the bill were class acts and did their best to put on some spectacular shows. They’ll be an overview of the best bands of the weekend in the August Issue just because… I suppose we have to say something nice at least….

Don’t forget to check out the gallery of the weekend… Some photos are sure to make you smile.
