Interview with Sin Star Clothing

As you all know, we here at Soundscape Magazine don’t just cover music, we like to feature other creative activities and outlets. So with that in mind let me introduce you to Sin Star Clothing, a new, cutting edge clothing label created and run by Ryan Stripe (photographer) and Sam Bell (graphic designer) from the band Rio.

The label are making quite a name for themselves with their bold prints and iconic designs. We spoke to Ryan about Sin Star and their new Autumn/Winter collection…

How did you get started?
We’ve been best friends for years and had always toyed with the idea of starting a clothing label to use their skills to get away from their monotonous day jobs so in may 2010 released their first range.

What have you got going on at the moment?
At the moment it’s very exciting as we are designing and sampling spring summer 2011 range which includes t-shirts, varsity jackets, chinos and exclusive denim wear.

Favourite music and why?
Our favourite music is so varied, We’re in the band Rio, so have grown up and toured with some great bands. Current music we like are You Me At Six, Young Guns and Kids In Glass Houses.

Favourite book and why?
Me and Sam don’t really read, we don’t have time, if it’s reading it’s normally researching Photoshop techniques or ‘how to run a business’ books, haha.

Favourite film and why?
We love American Psycho and think that Jared Leto not only writes a tune but is also a great actor.

Best experience in the business?
The best experience is seeing people wear our garments when were out and about or at gigs.

Why should Soundscape readers care?
Soundscape readers should care because we are working hard to give you another brand in the scene, that people feel good wearing.
Tell our readers an interesting fact about your company?
Me and Sam are only 24, haha.

Who are your role models/idols?
We really look up to young hard working entrepreneurs like Tom from Honour Over Glory, basically anyone with the drive an determination it takes to become successful at whatever you do

Hardest thing about the current business?
Is doing everything ourselves from marketing, packaging and designing it. Is very time consuming and taken over our life’s but in a productive way.

Head over to the website, you can find links to the label’s twitter, facebook and tumblr and most importantly, the store – where you can pick up the t-shirts, vests and the limited edition (only 50) Varsity jacket.
