Punk Rock, Crackle and Pop…

Well, here’s The Midnight Club, they’re a power-pop rock band from the Midlands, these 5 lads formed together after 3 other bands, most notably Ortega, whose album ‘Conversations’ I was a big fan of. Ortega also featured, for a short time Wales’s own Ceri Collins, so I was looking forward to hearing what the guys would come up with and I was not disappointed.

There are four songs on the bands Myspace page, ‘Stay Young’ and ‘Bad Boys Finish First’ which were put up back in February. They’re great songs, full of clever lyrics, great vocals and are as catchy as hell. They’re now back after a small line-up change with newly recorded tunes ‘Who’s Your Boy’ and ‘Even Hammer Can’t Touch This’, which were written and recorded in less than 3 weeks! It’s more of the same, great bouncy power pop punk songs that feel full of life. Especially with Jay’s excellent vocals and some awesome harmonies from the rest of the band, it makes for some really classy tunes.

The band have a home town show on July 17th at the Vic in Cannock and plan to start gigging in August, they also plan to record in October at Prism Studios with well respected producer and remixer Shaun Lowe (whose credits include the Imperial Vipers album among many others).

Great band! Thought the ep was really good and can’t wait to hear more from them!
Nice review Paul!
I would quite like these gents to ‘Fuck shit up old school’ in a town near me. That would be rather lovely.
Great review, Mr Esp.
