PlayFight – Mutt Review

PlayFight are a brand new 4 piece from California, consisting of Kyle Castellani – Vocals/Guitar, Matt Buehner – Lead Guitar, Ross Garcia – Bass and Chris Munson – Drums.

Kyle is a successful and hugely talented solo artist and former singer of Nural, who are one of my favourite bands, and Mutt is PlayFight’s Debut EP.

The EP kicks off with Enemy, a massively funky number. I’ve always been a huge fan of Kyle’s voice and he really shines here. The funky riff’s, fast paced drums and memorable chorus make this a great opening track.

Big Brother is a very bluesy sounding track, and definitely has some bite to it, with another strong chorus and hell of a guitar solo.

The songs here are all all different sounding, Around A Woman has a sleazy groove and you do truly believe Kyle does “know his way around a woman…just ask my ex’s”. It’s a great song with some brilliant lyrics.

The EP ends with Changes, a fast paced rocker with another killer chorus and some interesting twists and turns, a cracking end to the EP.

If you like your Rock music a bit funky, bluesy, well written, well played, complex and interesting then PlayFight are just the band for you.

9/10

You can get the EP from iTunes here, so make sure you check it out, and there will be an interview with the band appearing here very soon.
