Octavians – Artless EP Review

1376542_735785723163500_5662682544092777883_nCardiff based 4 piece Octavians are brilliant – just one listen to new EP Artless will tell you that.

Artless in the bands second EP, and it came out on November 20th. It’s 5 tracks of pretty damn original alt rock.

Opening track Every Success is a sprawling epic, full of different sonic textures and time changes, from the acappella opening section, which bursts into some serious guitars and drums with a hell of a chorus.

Next track up is the first single and video from the EP Sometimes I Think, Sometimes I Don’t, and is a great song. A brilliant, riff led alt rock tune, with a great vocal from singer/guitarist Sam Baker. The band are completed by Ieuan Lewis on lead guitar, bassist Zac Read and Alex Tabero on the drums, and their skill and songwriting abilities definitely bely the bands young age.

The songs really shine on the EP, Fiction Into Motion is a funky, almost soulful little tune, with a melodic, rememberable chorus and is cracking piece of songwriting.

In my opinion there isn’t much else around on the scene like Octavians, I find the songs unique, original and incredibly interesting, you never quite know where they are gonna go, and that’s completely refreshing. Definitely worth checking out.
