Masked Intruder – Masked Intruder Review

Masked Intruder – Masked Intruder (2013)

9/10

The four masked convicts from Madison, WI have recently released their self titled opus through Fat Wreck Chords.

If you’re the type to judge a book by its cover then you probably won’t play this album, I mean who in their right mind would want to listen to what a criminal has to say right?

Once you take away the shtick what you are left with is 13 tracks of spiky, bouncy, and catchy pop punk.

Masked Intruder sound like they could be the illegitimate offspring of the Ramones and The Get Up Kids, which in this reviewer’s opinion is no bad thing at all.

Lyrically the album takes the love theme from previous pop punk records, and puts a slight twist to them. The twist being that they will stoop as low as possible to win the hand of a fair maiden, whether it be breaking into houses which is heard in “Breakin’” or stalking which can be heard in standout track “Heart Shaped Guitar” which features Maura from Mixtapes playing the amour of Blue, Green, Red, and Yellow.

Overall this is a fantastic take on what could be deemed by purists as an over saturated genre, and worthy of a listen.

Check them out when they headline Le Pub on April 15th 2013
