So Download Festival is just 2 weeks away now and we know it’s always so hard to pick who you go to see. There’s always so many news bands to check out along side some of your favourites at Download Festival and we figure if we give you a bit of a preview of each and let them introduce themselves to you, it may make your planning easier.
Goldray formed in 2010 and decided that the late sixties and early seventies was a fantastic time for music and it had been a bit lost in recent years. So challenging some of the greats of the era they bring their own brand of psychedelic prog rock to a very hardcore/metal world and bring about a welcome change.
Who are you and what do you do?
Hi, my name is Kenwyn and I play guitar in Goldray
How did you get started?
Leah (our singer) and I started writing together about three and a half years ago, with the idea of getting a rock band together with a psych/prog twist. It’s my way of expressing all the things I couldn’t express in my old band Reef. It’s just slowly built from there really to the point now where we’re playing Download! .
What stage and day are you playing at Download Festival?
We’re playing The Red Bull studio stage at 1.00pm June Friday the 13th! …yes Friday the 13th!!! ..not that we’re superstitious!
What’s the best thing about playing Download Festival?
That we get to rock out and play our music at the biggest Rock festival in the country. Its as simple as that really.
Who are you most looking forward to seeing play at Download?
Was looking forward to seeing Sikth, Radkey, Nick Oliveri, Aerosmith and Joe Bonamassa but we wont be there on the days they’re playing…damn! …but on our day I think I’ll check out Black Label society and Opeth if I get a chance!
Have you got any surprises in store for you Download set?
If I tell you it wont be a surprise!
What’s your best festival memory either personally attending as a fan or in the band? And what’s your advice to all the festival goers?
My best Donington memory is of seeing AC/DC, Ozzy, Van Halen and Gary Moore when I was very young; about 13 years old! Also I have good memories of playing Download with my old band Reef a few years back.
