Regular readers will know I’m a huge fan of Hearts Under Fire; they are, in my opinion, one of the most talented and underrated bands in the UK today, and Outlines is set to get them the recognition they rightly deserve.
This 10 track album kicks off with Knots, the first single and video from the album, and it’s a stormer. It’s classic HUF, packed with power, passion and melody. Singer/bassist Mary O’Regan has an amazing voice and pulls off a stellar performance here. The song also feature some killer guitar work and a kick ass solo by Kat Upton.
What you’ll find on this album are incredibly well written and played songs – the band has always had a great lyrical touch, and on songs like False Hope, this really shines.
Outlines is packed with huge choruses that really worm their way into your cerebellum, The Things You Do To Keep Yourself Amused and Slow It Down are 2 prime examples of this, you’ll be humming them for weeks!
Lines really packs a punk rock punch, with some incredible drumming from powerhouse Lexi Clark, and This Can’t Be Love yet again shows off the sheer quality of the bands songwriting, with a some amazing melodies and another massive, memorable chorus.
My favourite track at the moment is Serotonin Blues, and this may well be the best song I’ve heard this year. It’s 2.28 of amazing guitar playing by Kat Upton and Nicky Day, killer vocals by Mary and a stellar performance by Lexi. It’s pretty much a perfect song!
Hopefully this will be the release that finally gets Hearts Under Fire the recognition they so deserve, so please take time to check it out when its released on Oct 13th.
The band are supporting Deaf Havana in Reading at Sub 89 on Friday Oct 3rd, and are throwing an album release party at the Boilerroom in Guildford on November 6th, we’ll see you there!
