This week, our A-Z sees us return once again to Finland for the extremely talented Vorna, a band that plays folk and black metal in one almighty and stunning blend.

Formed in 2008, with the lineup being completed in 2009, the band named themselves after Vorna, who was a formidible bow-wielding character in Finnish folklore, and they played a few shows and recorded a few demos before laying low in 2010 and 2011 due to the members commitments to serve in the compulsory Finnish Defence Forces.

2013, however, saw a much welcome return for the band with the release of their mindblowing debut album, Ajastaika. Sometimes you only need one listen of an album to know it’s absolutely top-notch and that was exactly the case with this one. We described it as an ambitious and stunning release, and if you’d like to see our review in full, you can check it out here and in additon, you can check out one of the highlights of the album, Kaivatun Uni via Soundcloud below.

2014 will see the band embark on their Kuolevan Maan Kulkijat tour in the latter half of the year, with the awesome Thyrien accompanying the band on most of the dates – and if this band are even half as good as they are on CD, then it’s guaranteed that these will be some shows you won’t be forgetting in a hurry.

The future is exceedingly bright for this established yet up-and-coming band, and when they make it big, don’t say we didn’t warn you! If you haven’t checked them out yet, then what are you waiting for?
