Soundscape’s A-Z Of Bands: Queens Of The Stone Age

Queens of the Stone Age

There aren’t really a lot of bands to choose from that begin with the letter Q, so this week we decided to play it safe and have Queens Of The Stone Age as our featured band for the A-Z.

Formed in 1996 after Josh Homme’s previous band Kyuss split, the current lineup includes Homme (vocals, guitar, piano), Troy Van Leeuwen (guitar, lap steel, keyboard, percussion), Michael Shuman (bass guitar, keyboard), Dean Fertita (keyboards, guitar, percussion), and Jon Theodore (drums, percussion).

The band’s most recent release is their 2013 album …Like Clockwork, which is their sixth studio album and is their first album to feature full contributions from Shuman and Fertita. It received largely positive reviews (we gave it a 7/10) and featured drumming from Dave Grohl as well as backing vocals from ex-member Nick Oliveri following his 2004 firing.

They’re currently touring in support of it’s release, with a North American and Australian tour planned for 2014.
