This week’s A-Z Of Bands sees us head over to Finland and the fantastic Children Of Bodom, who are one of Finland’s best-selling bands of all time.

Originally formed in 1993 under the name of Unearthed by vocalist/guitarist Alexi Laiho and drummer Jaska Raatikainen, the band recorded a few demos before changing their name in order to sign a lucrative contract with Spinefarm Records.

The band has incorporated many musical styles over the years, with their earlier stuff favouring more of a heavier approach and their newer stuff featuring a little more melody to it. They also have a very distinctive guitar style from Laiho, who has been labelled as one of the 50 fastest guitarists in the world! But don’t take our word for it – check out his and fellow Bodom guitarist Roope Latvala’s rendition of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons ‘Summer’ theme:

The band are also known for their wide variety of cover songs and 2009 saw them release a compilation album of some of their best ones, including their infamous cover of the famous Britney Spears track Oops! I Did It Again, Alice Cooper’s Bed Of Nails, Billy Idol’s Rebel Yell and many more!

Children Of Bodom recently released their latest album Halo Of Blood and will be touring the UK later on in the year.
