The band put out their first album, a self-titled release in 2002. The album received generally good reviews from critics, charting just outside the top 100 in both the US and UK, but managing to chart nevertheless, which is a big achievement for a new band with a debut release.
The band’s second album was 2005’s A Beautiful Lie. This album was recorded in four different continents and five different countries around Jared Leto’s acting career. However despite the jumpy nature of the recording of the album, critics still received the album generally favourably. This album made it into the top 40 in both the US and the UK and the band were starting to gain a bigger following now word was out that actor Jared Leto was in a band.
In 2009, 30 Seconds to Mars released This Is War, the band’s third studio album, to critical acclaim. This release made it into the top 20 this time in both the US and the UK, reaching 15 in the UK album charts and 18 on the US Billboard 200. This album also charted in a host of European and worldwide countries, going either platinum or gold in 12 of them including Australia, Germany and Belgium as well as the UK and US.
The band’s most recent album is 2013’s Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams. This album received mostly favourable reviews, which a couple of mixed responses from some publications. However this is the band’s highest charting album to date, reaching the top 10 in many countries including the US and the UK, as well as receiving certification in a range of countries too.
The band seem to have 3-4 year breaks between albums, so we can’t probably expect another release until 2016/2017 however which the rate that the band seem to be going, we can only expect amazing things to come.
